Razzlekhan’s Husband Sentenced to 5 Years for Bitfinex Bitcoin Hack
Bitfinex Hack Update: Ilya Lichtenstein sentenced to five years for laundering stolen bitcoin.
Lichtenstein, the mastermind behind the 2016 Bitfinex hack involving 120,000 bitcoin, has been sentenced to five years in prison. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Lichtenstein hacked Bitfinex’s systems, transferred 119,754 BTC to his personal wallet, and deleted key logs to cover his tracks.
Together with his wife, Heather Morgan (aka rapper “Razzlekhan”), Lichtenstein laundered 25,111 BTC (21% of the stolen funds) through Eastern European accounts, bitcoin mixers, and even gold coins.
Prosecutors labeled their laundering methods as some of the “most complicated” ever seen by the IRS.
Morgan’s sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 18, with prosecutors recommending an 18-month sentence.
